What is RUCK-X?
RUCK-X is an exercise program for ordinary, hard-working men 40 and above. The idea of the program is to cover strength, cardio and socialising in a simple, accessible package that anyone can do. If you can walk you can ruck!
The goal here is to stay fit, strong, functional and looking good well into our later years. Think funky grandpa!
Why should you give a damn?
Well, if you are anything like us and not an elite athlete, getting and staying fit as you get older is much harder. I struggle to run due to my knees and a persistent Achilles injury, Owen could not run either, and we had little to no spare time for biking or other exercises that were harder to fit in.
When we started rucking, we combined cardio, strength work & socialising in the morning, which was good for our physical and mental health. By doing it together, we had accountability to get us out of bed at 5.30 am even if the weather was not great or we were not feeling it.
Then, as we kept adding weight, working up to 30kg by Xmas 2023, we both got fitter and stronger, and our heads were in a better place, so we figured other people, blokes in their 40s and above, could also benefit.
Why is the program called RUCK-X?
As for the name, RUCK-X just seemed right and works on many levels.
The foundation is rucking, but as great as rucking is, it is not enough if you really want to maximise health and happiness as you get old. The X covers everything else from mobility, to diet, to talking and time in nature. Start with the RUCK and then add in your own X’s to customise and complete the program.
The name also works on many other levels:
Rucking has the X-Factor, a unique, almost indescribable quality as it helps with cardio, strength, building muscle, appearance, mental health and much more, all in one simple, accessible, efficient package.
RX is also a common abbreviation for a medical prescription, derived from the Latin verb “recipere” meaning “to take”. RUCK-X is your exercise prescription and will greatly improve your health more than any pill or potion!
Also, the program is aimed at us Generation-X folks, who are likely 40 to 60 (ish) and have a different challenge to the youth that most exercise programs aim for.
RUCK-X also works as RX for social networks and all those other dratted online places we will have to get involved in to get the word out. RX works because expressed as, the phonetic pronunciation is RUCKS.
Finally, as mentioned above, the X also acts as a variable and relates to all the other things you can add to a rucking program to support your health: eating well, sleeping well, time in nature & much more. All elements that we will advise on.
Better still, the domain name RUCK-X.com was available so the planets just aligned for us on this one!
