James – Rucking Case Study

I was in good shape in my twenties and thirties, but this has gone out of the window in my forties. Despite regular attempts to do what I did when I was younger, a combination of weight training, indoor rowing and HIIT sessions, I couldn’t get close to my previous physique. I got to the point where I just wanted to lose the belly and my clothes fit better.

I downloaded the beginner programme and started walking to and from work three times a week. I added a 5kg dumbbell plate in my rucksack along with my sandwiches, upping the weight to 10kg after a few weeks. It was pretty easy to do this as part of my regular routine and it didn’t really feel like I was starting a new exercise regime.

The regular rucking, along with being careful with what I eat and not drinking alcohol Sunday to Thursday, I lost a stone in weight in just over 3 months. This is great, and I am also getting back into the habit of exercising and have started rowing again on a Saturday morning. As the guys at Ruck-X say, it’s all about consistency, not quick fixes.

Owen (47) has spent 25 years working in corporate roles within various sectors. Being active and spending time with family are critical to Owen’s well-being, but this is not always easy to maintain due to the odd injury, illness or just because of his love of cheese. Incorporating rucking into his schedule with Marcus, at least twice a week, provides a low-risk form of exercise that gives good return for the time invested.
